How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg erased a pair of one-goal deficits to complete a late-game comeback in a thrilling 4-3 victory, the team's first of the young season, over Waynesburg at Nittany Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, August 31.

With the score tied and the final minutes ticking away, Anthony LaVia chased down a ball from Mason Jones, evaded charging Waynesburg goalkeeper Adam Dolan and netted the game winner with just 2:59 left to play.

LaVia's deciding goal came after the Lions (1-1) took advantage of a Waynesburg yellow card when Aaron Cummings pushed a free kick past a wall of Yellow Jacket defenders and into the back of the net from just outside the box to tie things up in the 79th minute.

The Blue & White led 2-1 midway through the first half but Waynesburg (0-2) pulled even in the 31st minute when Daniel Hott headed home an attempt off a feed from Justin Buberl. Then, with 25:06 left to play, Nate Kummer put the visitors ahead with an unassisted score.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board 16 minutes into the contest but Jacob Krantweiss scored the equalizer off a find from Toma Nichik two and a half minutes later. Barely a minute went by before Shammah Gahomera converted a penalty kick to put the Lions ahead for the first time in the 19th minute.

- Penn State Harrisburg held a 22-to-10 advantage in total shots and an 11-to-4 edge in shots on goal.

- Anthony LaVia's game-winning goal was the first marker of the freshman's young career.

- Shammah Gahomera, Aaron Cummings and Jacob Krantweiss each netted their first goals of the year.

- Mason Jones and Toma Nichik each added an assist.

- Justin Buberl recorded one goal and one assist to tally three points.

- Nicholas Guglielmetti earned the win in goal for the Lions.
