Matt Garrett

A seasoned veteran with nearly two decades of Division III head coaching experience to his credit, Matt Garrett begins his first season as Penn State Harrisburg women’s soccer head coach in the fall of 2026.

Most recently, Garrett served as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer program at Division II Shippensburg in 2025 after spending 18 highly-productive seasons manning the sidelines as women’s soccer head coach at Gettysburg from 2007-24.

While at Gettysburg, Garrett racked up 158 career victories, with 95 coming in Centennial Conference play. Thanks to his guidance, Gettysburg players combined to earn a pair of all-America plaudits, 15 all-region accolades, and 61 all-conference honors. Under Garrett’s leadership, the Bullets earned a pair of at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and 2019, qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament 13 times, and recorded a dozen winning seasons.

Before taking over at Gettysburg, Garrett spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Division II Slippery Rock—his alma mater—after serving as an assistant at Division I Robert Morris for three years. He helped guide The Rock to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in 2005 that ended a 31-year title drought after aiding RMU in clinching a Northeast Conference (NEC) Regular Season Championship in 2001.

A four-year starter and letterwinner for The Rock, Garrett was named a team captain prior to his senior campaign. He graduated from Slippery Rock in 2000.
