Former men's soccer standout Christian Schmoyer begins his first season as lead assistant coach for Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer program in the fall of 2026.
Schmoyer returns to his alma mater after serving as men's soccer head coach at Penn State York. For his efforts, he was named the 2024 Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Coach of the Year. During his two-year tenure, he compiled a 17-8-5 record and guided the program to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in more than a decade. Under his leadership, Penn State York earned its first playoff appearance in nine years, achieved its highest national ranking, and recorded the first undefeated conference regular season in school history.
One of the most distinguished players in program history, Schmoyer is Penn State Harrisburg's all-time leader in games started and a two-time team captain. He was named the 2018 men's soccer MVP and the 2018 Penn State Harrisburg Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Following his collegiate career, he competed at the semi-professional level in the NPSL with Hershey FC from 2018 to 2020.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Schmoyer holds a USSF National C License and has coached at the club level with Keystone FC and PA Classics since 2021.
Schmoyer earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2017 before completing his master's degree in Health Education from Penn State Harrisburg in 2018.
