WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to non-conference opponent Lycoming on Friday night, Sep. 4.
The Lions (0-2) earned a pair of corner kicks and put a shot just over the top of the net early in the contest, while goalkeeper
Jimmy Shensky kept the match scoreless with first-half saves on Aidan Stillman and Jake Keeney.
Diego Menendez tested Lycoming's goalkeeper Jace Bennett at the 22-minute mark, but the Warriors built pressure later in the frame and forced  Shensky to save another attempt on target.
In the 30th minute, the home team scored the one and only goal of the night when Leandro Cruz scored off an assist from Connor Hussman. Penn State Harrisburg's
Moussa Cherif attempted to level the score just minutes later but couldn't get the shot past Bennett in goal. Shensky continued to be pressured by the Warriors and made two more saves just before halftime.
The visitors pushed forward at the beginning of the second half, as
Andres Cantillo and
Mason Quinton's attempts were just a bit off frame. Menendez joined in the attack when he kicked a pair of shots towards the net, but Bennett once again protected the goal and ultimately the shutout. Shensky recorded a trio of saves in the final half, which helped the Lions to remain within striking distance of the Warriors.
