INDIANAPOLIS - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team is heading to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Tournament for the third straight season, as revealed by the tournament selection committee on Monday afternoon, May 4.
The Lions (11-7) defeated conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) 4-1 on Sunday morning to secure their third straight United East Championship and fifth conference title in program history, clinching the league's automatic qualifier in the process. Penn State Harrisburg will take on the MAC Freedom Champions from Stevens (14-5) on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan in the team's first round contest on Friday, May 8. The winner of the opening matchup will take on nationally-ranked Emory (12-10) in second round action the following day.
Forty-four teams were selected for the single-elimination tournament with first, second, and third-rounds played at regional sites, May 8-10, or Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9. University of the South and Chattanooga will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 19-22 at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 6.
