GREENSBORO, N.C. - Penn State Harrisburg baseball player James Quici was named the D3baseball.com Region IV Rookie of the Year and was joined by teammates Fisher Druck and Blaine Waltimyer as all-region selections from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com.
In addition to his regional rookie of the year accolade, Quici was named first-team all-region by both the ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com. Druck was named to the D3baseball.com All-Region Second Team, as well as the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Third Team, while Waltimyer was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team.Â
Quici burst onto the scene during his freshman campaign. For his efforts, he was named the United East Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the United East All-Conference First Team. He slashed .403/.496/.672 with a 1.168 OPS and racked up 27 extra-base hits, including nine home runs and 13 doubles, while his five triples matched the program's single-season record and ranked 20th among Division III players this spring. The Paoli, Pa. native ranked 21st in the nation in hits (75), 25th in the country in total bases (125), and 49th among Division III players in RBIs (57). The corner outfielder also scored 54 runs, walked 35 times, and stole 19 bases this season. Across five NCAA Regional contests against No. 22 Russell Sage and (RV) Randolph-Macon, he hit two home runs and added a pair of doubles and a triple to go along with eight RBIs, five runs, and seven walks.
Druck wrapped up one of the most successful and decorated pitching careers in program history this spring and was named to the United East All-Conference First Team for his efforts. The senior ranked 22nd in the nation in wins (8), 28th in the country in games started (13), and 45th among Division III pitchers in strikeouts (75). The righty posted a 3.19 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 73.1 innings thrown this season and was named the United East Pitcher of the Week in early March. Druck became the program's all-time wins leader (27) last month and also set the program record for career starts (47). The Lancaster, Pa. native has thrown more innings (248.2) than anyone in program history and ranks second all-time in in strikeouts (241) and fourth all-time in ERA (3.29). Druck completed his illustrious career ranked third among active Division III players in starts, fourth in wins, and 10th in strikeouts.Â
Waltimyer closed out his impressive career with a memorable senior campaign that saw him named to the United East All-Conference Third Team after earning a pair of United East Player of the Week awards. He saved his best for the postseason and was named the United East Championship Tournament MVP after slashing .556/.571/.889 with a 1.460 OPS with a home run, three doubles, two walks, seven runs, and six RBIs across four games on championship weekend. This spring, the D3baseball.com Preseason All-American slashed .326/.405/.589 with a .994 OPS and tallied 23 extra-base hits, including 11 home runs, 11 doubles, and a triple. The corner outfielder finished with 57 hits, 43 runs, and 42 RBIs to go along with 103 total bases, 25 walks, and nine stolen bases. The Pottstown, Pa. native completed his career as just the fifth player in program history to record 200 career hits and he ranks top-five all-time in runs (173), RBIs (149), home runs (24), and doubles (49).Â
