MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team remained undefeated in conference play thanks to their 7-0 victory over Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon, April 11 at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
Penn State Harrisburg (9-6, 7-0 United East) secured the doubles point decisively, taking all three matches. In the top contest,
Ved Pawar and
Colin Flack earned a 6-4 win over Lancaster Bible's Cole Stoltzfus and Cole Scheihing. The momentum continued into the No. 2 pairing with
Ian Opitz and
Andrew Lines defeating Cameron Tripp and Jon Breinich, 6-4.
Michael Rivino and
Harris Ahmed completed the doubles sweep with a dominant 6-1 victory over Hemberth Pena and Patrick Grootboom at No. 3 spot.
In singles, the Lions maintained control, winning all six matches. Pawar started with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win over Stoltzfus in the No. 1 slot. Opitz followed with a tight comeback victory in the No. 2 contest, overcoming Scheihing in three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6. Flack added to the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Tripp in the No. 3 matchup.
Rivino clinched the match for the home team in the fourth matchup, defeating Breinich 6-1, 6-1.
John McCarthy and
Riley Fallon rounded out the sweep at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. McCarthy bested Pena 6-1, 6-2, while Fallon secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Grootboom.
The Lions travel to St. Mary's City, Md. on Tuesday, April 14 for a rematch of last season's United East Championship against St. Mary's (Md.).
