MEDIA, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team used a big third quarter to create separation en route to a 70-53 conference victory over United East foe Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday night, Feb. 4.
Lauren Moffatt turned in the most impressive effort of the season, finishing with a monster 27-point, 17-rebound double-double to lead the way for Penn State Harrisburg (8-15, 7-4 United East). Brookelynn Carr finished with 10 points and a team-high three assists, while Mikayla Coleman added 11 points.
After erasing an early deficit and pulling even at 32-32 at halftime, Penn State Harrisburg opened the second half on 15-4 run that began with a JP Ferguson steal and transition layup, included a pair of Akira Cho 3-balls and was capped by a triple from Kennadi Johnson that pushed the advantage to double digits for the first time.
Penn State Brandywine (5-17, 4-6 United East) cut the deficit to 47-40 midway through the third quarter but the visitors closed out the period with an 8-2 spurt capped by a Moffat old-fashioned 3-point play that stretched the lead to 13 heading into the final frame.
Moffatt stayed hot in the fourth, scoring 10 of her game-high 27 points in the final quarter, while Penn State Harrisburg put the game on ice at the charity stripe thanks to 11 combined free throws from Moffatt, Carr and Allison Metzgar down the stretch.
