LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team extended their recent win streak to six in a row thanks to a 4-0 conference victory of Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17.
Abigail Mahaffey,
Ella Shirk,
Teagan Paragon, and
Julia Hughes all had a goal each to lead the Lions (7-5-1, 6-0 United East), while
Ava Myers tallied the lone assist of the contest.
Sydney Mulka spent the bulk of the match in goal for the visitors before
Alli Dietz came in for the last 25 minutes. Penn State Harrisburg's goalkeeping duo recorded three saves apiece.
After a flurry of shots and four corner kicks, the Lions got on the board first in the 32nd minute thanks to a marker by Mahaffey. She got off an initial attempt that Lancaster Bible (5-6-2, 3-1-2 United East) goalkeeper Saige Santa Cruz saved, which Mahaffey then one-timed past the diving attempt of Santa Cruz to put the visitors up 1-0. Just over a minute later,
Evalyn Stoner sent the ball across midfield that was headed by an LBC defender and ultimately found Shirk, who calmly sank the ball in the back of the net.
Eight minutes into the second half, Myers crossed the ball to Paragon who was outside of the 18-yard box and hit the inside post of the goal to score the third marker of the day for Penn State Harrisburg. The Lions extended their lead to 4-0 in the 65th minute with a Hughes goal, thanks to another great pass from Myers. The Chargers had a late surge, forcing Dietz to make a pair of saves, but the four-point deficit was too much to overcome for the home team.
