MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team rolled to an 81-35 conference victory over United East foe Valley Forge at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Jan. 21.
Mikayla Coleman set a new single-game program record with 35 points, while
Molli Hogbin posted a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double.
Nicole Hernandez also flirted with a double-double, finishing with 12 points and seven boards.
Lauren Moffatt added eight points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals, while
Brookelynn Carr added seven points, four assists and four steals.
The Lions (6-13, 5-3 United East) jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind five Coleman points before closing out the frame on a 14-4 run capped by an
Akira Cho 3-ball off a
Kennadi Johnson assist. The Patriots (0-14, 0-8 United East) cut the deficit to 15 midway through the second quarter but the home team answered with a 6-0 push that ended with a Hogbin layup at the 3:18 mark. Penn State Harrisburg's full-court press made things tough on UVF and Carr pushed the advantage to 28 with a fastbreak layup to end the half.
The home team stretched the lead to 40 for the first time when Hernandez converted a pair of free throws late in the third quarter and the Lions kept the defensive press on to eventually take a 47-point lead into the fourth following a Hernandez triple off a Moffatt assist. Coleman converted a layup midway through the fourth to score her 35th point before Penn State Harrisburg called off the dogs down the stretch.
