8/11/2025 8:00:00 AM

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg's athletic communications department was recently recognized by College Sports Communicators (CSC) as part of the organization's annual Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, winning first place at the district level for the feature story "The Timeline: Penn State Harrisburg Athletics Year In Review."

Written by director of athletic communications Thomas Klemick, the piece was named the winner in CSC's District 2 in the Season Recap/Preview - College Division category. Originally published on Dec. 31, 2024, the retrospective chronologically highlighted the milestones and achievements of Penn State Harrisburg's student-athletes and athletic programs from the previous year.

The 2024-25 Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest saw CSC members in all eight districts submit nearly 500 articles in seven categories. For the second straight year, the contest was split into University and College Divisions, allowing for recognition of work done by members from both smaller offices and NCAA Division I staffs. CSC's District 2 includes the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.

The Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest honor is the first for Penn State Harrisburg's athletic communications group. Klemick, along with assistant director of athletic communications Kendis Butler, have 11 CSC Creative & Digital Design Awards to their name dating back to 2021, including being named 2024 Designer of the Year - Best in Division III.
