Kendis Butler has served as an assistant for the athletic communications department at Penn State Harrisburg, her alma mater, since 2018. She was officially named assistant director of athletic communications in 2024.
Her responsibilities cover all facets of athletic coverage for the school’s 17 intercollegiate programs, including website and social media management, graphic design, game recaps and feature stories, photography and videography, live stream production and statistical tracking. She served as a representative to Penn State Harrisburg's Faculty Athletics Senate Committee and contributed to seven College Sports Communicators (CSC) Publication & Digital Design award-winning graphics. As a contributor to Penn State Harrisburg’s athletic communications output in 2023-24, she was recognized with a CSC Designer of the Year - Best of Division III honor.
Butler has been on staff for numerous collegiate and high school championship events in recent years, including a pair of NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Regionals in 2023 and 2024, respectively, with Penn State Harrisburg serving as host site in back-to-back seasons. In 2020, her video footage of Penn State Harrisburg’s men’s basketball team upsetting No. 6 Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Tournament was featured on local television news stations. She has also served as an official statistician for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Championships since 2023.
A former NCAA Woman of the Year Award and Jostens Trophy finalist, Butler put together one of the most well-rounded and decorated careers in school history as a member of Penn State Harrisburg’s women’s basketball program. She completed her career as the NCAA Division III active leader in 3-point field goals (295) and her 3-point total ranks 26th all-time in Division III history. A three-time all-conference selection, she is Penn State Harrisburg's all-time leading scorer (1,277 points) while holding numerous program records, including career field goals (382), career 3-point field goals, points in a single season (424), points in a single game (33), and 3-pointers in a single contest (10). For her efforts, she was named a 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year Award Top 30 Finalist after being tabbed a 2023 Jostens Trophy Finalist for most outstanding player of the year.
Butler was also stellar in the classroom and was named the 2023 United East Female Athlete of the Year after earning the inaugural United East Women's Basketball Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. She was one of the first players in program history to earn CSC Academic All-District accolades thanks to their combination of athletic and academic success and she garnered five consecutive conference all-academic awards. During her senior campaign, Butler held the position of president of Penn State Harrisburg’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council and served as a member of the United East Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), contributing to numerous service efforts both on campus and in surrounding communities.
The Communications major and American Studies minor graduated from Penn State with high honors in May of 2023. Butler currently resides in her hometown of York, Pa.
