GREENSBORO, N.C. – Thanks to their stellar efforts this spring, four Penn State Harrisburg baseball players have earned all-region recognition from the ABCA/Rawlings and/or D3baseball.com, as announced by the organizations on Tuesday morning.
Blaine Waltimyer secured all-region first team honors from both the ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com, while
Demetre Koutras III garnered an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team accolade.
Brendan Henn was named to the all-region second team by both organizations and
Fisher Druck was tabbed third-team all-region by the ABCA/Rawlings.
Waltimyer recently completed one of the most productive offensive seasons in recent memory. The junior broke out in a big way this spring, ranking third in the nation in doubles (24), sixth in the country in runs (68) and 20th in Division III in total bases (126). The outfielder also ranks 23rd among Division III players with 74 hits and his 57 RBIs rank 40th nationally. The leadoff man slashed .394/.476/.670, finished with a team-leading 1.146 OPS and racked up eight home runs and a pair of triples to go along with his single-season program-record doubles total. The Pottstown, Pa. native also walked 29 times with 19 stolen bases. Thanks to his efforts in a pair of postseason victories to begin the month of May, he was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week before being named to the United East All-Conference First Team.
Koutras made his sophomore campaign a memorable one, starting all 48 contests and completing the regular season as one of the team's top threats at the plate. The first baseman slashed .414/.505/.511 with a 1.016 OPS this spring with 77 hits; a number good enough to rank eighth in the nation and stand as the third-highest single-season total in program history. The Clarksville, Md. native hit a dozen doubles and a pair of home runs in racking up 95 total bases. Koutras also scored 57 runs and drove in 39 more to go along with 32 walks and nine stolen bases. He was named to the United East All-Conference Second Team earlier this month.
Henn started the year with a bang and never looked back, slashing .369/.488/.594 with a 1.082 OPS on the season. Just the fourth player in program history to reach the 200-hit mark for his career, the senior tallied 95 total bases on 59 hits, including six home runs, three triples and a dozen doubles. The Matamoras, Pa. native scored 49 runs, drove in 45 more and swiped eight bases, while his 36 walks are good enough to rank him 36th among Division III players. Thanks to his efforts on opening weekend, Henn was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week after securing United East Player of the Week honors. He was named to the United East All-Conference First Team for his efforts.
Druck proved the pitching staff's top starter this season, making 13 appearances with a dozen starts. The junior finished 6-1 on the spring and boasted a team-best 3.67 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP and one save. The Lancaster, Pa. native racked up a team-high 73 strikeouts in 61.1 innings thrown and finished with a 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings mark. The hard-throwing right hander held opposing hitters to a .246 batting average, was named the United East Pitcher of the Week in early March and earned a spot on the United East All-Conference First Team.
