MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - No. 22/26 Penn State Harrisburg raced out to an 8-2 lead over TCNJ in NCAA Regional action before weather halted the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on Friday evening, May 16. The contest was suspended for the night and will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The hometown Lions wasted no time striking first in the bottom of the opening stanza when
Brendan Henn hit an opposite field, two-run home run that brought leadoff man
Blaine Waltimyer around with him. Before the inning was through,
Lucas Floyd provided more fireworks with a two-out, RBI triple that plated
Alexander Ruiz and
Matthew Johansen to double the advantage.
Penn State Harrisburg used more-timely two-out hitting in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead to eight runs.
Coy Schwanger drove in a pair with a two-out single through the left side, scoring
Demetre Koutras III and Ruiz in the process, before
Drew Sassaman came through with a two-out single of his own that plated Floyd and
Coy Schwanger.
TCNJ broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth before starter
Fisher Druck limited the damage. Penn State Harrisburg moved a pair of runners in Henn and Johansen into scoring position in the bottom of the fourth when the game was halted due to lightning with
Carlos Irizarry at the plate.
The action will resume from the point of interruption on Saturday morning, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
