MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - No. 22/26 Penn State Harrisburg earned an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament and was selected as a host for one of this weekend's 16 Regional Round sites from May 16-18.
The Lions (33-11-1) are joined in the region by No. 7/10Â Salve Regina (32-7), TCNJ (26-17-1) and Keene State (25-15). Salve Regina and Keene State open regional play on Friday afternoon at 12Â p.m., with Penn State Harrisburg and TCNJ set to follow at 3:30 p.m.
Penn State Harrisburg earned an at-large bid to NCAAs after winning 30-plus games for the fourth consecutive season and finishing as the runner-up in the United East Conference. The Lions are making their sixth straight NCAA appearance and seventh overall, while earning regional hosting duties for the third straight time. As a unit, the regional hosts rank second in the nation in runs scored, as well as third in the country in both walks and hits.Â
Winners of a program-record 17 games in a row, Salve Regina is making its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance overall and sixth straight after making a run to the College World Series a year ago. The Seahawks are coming off a thrilling, walk-off victory in the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday afternoon and house one of the best pitching staffs in Division III, leading the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio and ranking second in team ERA.Â
TCNJ has been a postseason stalwart for years, as evidenced by the program's 25 NCAA Tournament appearances, including its most-recent at-large bid this spring. The Lions made a memorable run in the NJAC Championship Tournament and finished as the conference's runner-up. As a group, they rank 11th in the country in walks, 16th in doubles and 32nd in home runs.
One of the best turnaround stories of the season, Keene State went from from a sub-.500 campaign a year ago to a conference crown this spring, winning four straight playoff contests to sweep their way to a Little East Championship over the weekend. Winners of 17 of their last 19 games, the Owls are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and their first since 2012.Â
