LA PLUME, Pa. - No. 19/24 Penn State Harrisburg dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 24/RV Keystone in the final game of the United East Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon, May 11.
The Lions (33-11-1) and top-seeded Giants (35-9) each managed six hits apiece but the home team came used three hit by pitches and five walks to increase the baserunner total and got timely hits to drive in runs. With the victory, Keystone captured its second consecutive United East Championship. Despite the loss, Penn State Harrisburg secured an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament.Â
The visitors struck first in the top of the third inning thanks to a solo home run from Lucas Floyd - his third in as many games against the Giants. The home team struck back in the bottom of the fourth, however, using two hit by pitches and a walk to load the bases with no outs before a single down the left field line put Keystone out in front. The Giants added another run with an RBI single before pushing the lead to three thanks to a sacrifice fly.Â
Keystone tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth and the Lions couldn't take advantage of Matthew Johansen's leadoff double in the seventh. They finally broke through again in the eighth following a walk from Drew Sassaman and a Blaine Waltimyer single to center field. After Waltimyer swiped second, Alexander Ruiz came through with a two-out double that scored them both but the visitors went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to end the game.
