GRANTHAM, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team fought to a 5-2 victory over non-conference rival Messiah on Thursday afternoon, April 24 to close out the regular season.
The Lions (15-7) took all three doubles matches, starting with
Breanna DeSantis and
Allison Wootton who earned a 6-3 win over Kylie Walker and Kiara Bomboy in the top contest.
Sarah Shaub and
Anita Liu took a 6-3 victory from Bella Heckman and Jocelyn Valdez in the No. 2 spot, while
Carissa Fallon and
Hailey Dey impressed in the third matchup with a 6-1 win over Annie Forry and Izzy Ipri.
DeSantis worked hard for a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Walker in the No. 2 spot and Liu recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the third contest against Heckman. In the fourth outing, Dey topped Valdez 6-2, 6-4 and Shaub officially brought home the victory for Penn State Harrisburg with her 6-4, 6-4 win versus Katelyn Good. Despite close contests in the No. 1 and No. 6 spots, Wootton and Fallon both dropped their individual matchups.
Penn State Harrisburg awaits their opponent in the United East Conference Tournament for the semifinal match on Wednesday, April 30. As the second seed in the conference, the Lions will go up against either Notre Dame of Maryland or Cairn at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
