Mistakes Cost No. 13 Baseball In Narrow Loss at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Mistakes plagued No. 13 Penn State Harrisburg in the team's second one-run setback of the weekend - a 5-4 loss to Montclair State at Yogi Berra Stadium on the final day of the MSU Invitational on Sunday afternoon, March 16.

The Lions (11-3) struggled on the base paths and were picked off three times, while the game's lone error led to a key unearned run for Montclair State. Blaine Waltimyer hit a solo home run, while Demetre Koutras III had a two-hit day. Dylan Sattazahn and Sam Thompson combined for two scoreless innings of relief.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first stanza, a Brendan Henn sacrifice fly in the top of the third scored Tim Haftl to tie things up. Penn State Harrisburg took its first lead when Matthew Johansen's groundout drove in Waltimyer in the third before Haftl's double to center field scored Koutras to double the advantage.

The Red Hawks (9-6) pulled even with a pair of runs in the fifth but Waltimyer led off the sixth with a solo blast over the fence in right field to put the Lions back out in front. Unfortunately for the visitors, they stranded runners in scoring position in each of the next two innings before Montclair State used three hits in the bottom of the eighth to score a pair of runs and retake the lead.

The Lions went down in order in the top of the ninth and allowed the home team to steal the victory on their home turf.
