MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The season came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team with an 83-61 loss to Notre Dame of Maryland at the Capital Union Building in the semifinal round of the United East Championship Tournament on Tuesday night, Feb. 25.
Isaiah Eggleston scored his 1,000th point at Penn State Harrisburg during the contest and finished the game with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds.
Jordan Spencer scored a dozen points, while
Mason Pulliam and
Lance Douglas added 10 points apiece.
The Gators (16-12) were white hot out of the gate, racing out to a 13-0 advantage to begin the game while shooting better than 55 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc for the majority of the first half.
Mason Pulliam hit a couple of shots to pull Penn State Harrisburg (18-9) to within 11 midway through the opening half but each time the Lions converted, Notre Dame had an answer on the other end. After an Eggleston 3-ball at the 4:33 mark, the visitors put together an 8-0 run and took a 43-20 lead into the break.
The Gators stayed hot to open the second half, using a 13-5 spurt to take their largest lead of the night at 56-25 with 16:21 left to play. Penn State Harrisburg chipped away and eventually closed the gap to 19 following four straight points from Spencer and again thanks to a pair of
Larry Onabanwo free throws with 8:45 remaining.
In the final eight minutes, the Lions pressed and trapped but Notre Dame was able to withstand the defensive pressure and keep the home team at arm's length, escaping with the victory and punching their ticket to Saturday's conference championship game.
