Swarthmore Holds Off Men's Basketball

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team suffered a 71-61 setback against Swarthmore on Saturday evening, Nov. 15 at the Capital Union Building.

Jordan Spencer flirted with a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Chris Henderson Jr. added 11 points of her own. Antwone George surpassed double-digits with 10 points and Andre Thomas III led the Lions with five assists.

The Garnet (3-0) went on an 8-0 run halfway through the first half which included a layup by Eddie Paquette and back-to-back 3-pointers from Caleb Aurelien that put the visitors up 14-7. Although Penn State Harrisburg (0-3) clawed back within four points on multiple occasions, thanks in part to an old-fashioned 3-point play by Spencer with eight minutes to go and a 3-pointer from George a minute later.

Despite the constant pressure by the Lions, Swarthmore extended their advantage 31-22 after a bucket from beyond the arc by Brady Kageyama going into halftime.

In the second half, the visitors saw their largest lead of the night at the 16-minute mark when Nyle Coleman made a layup to bring the score to 45-30. Penn State Harrisburg immediately countered with eight unanswered points by means of an and-one from David Reed IV, a 3-ball by Thomas, and a layup in the paint from George.

The game of runs continued, as Devin Burger and Kageyama partnered up for a 6-0 Garnet surge before the Lions matched their run thanks in part to layups from Spencer and Isaiah Milien. Although Henderson scored all of his 11 points in the second frame, it wasn't enough to fuel the home team past the Garnet and the game ended in favor of the visitors 71-61.
