INDIANAPOLIS - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team is heading to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament for the second straight season and third time in program history, as revealed by the tournament selection committee on Monday morning, Nov. 10.
The Lions (14-5-4) won their fourth United East Championship in program history on Saturday afternoon to clinch the league's automatic qualifier. Penn State Harrisburg will travel to the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. to face the host Captains (14-1-3), the nation's No. 14 program, in the team's first round contest at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15. The Lions and CNU are joined in the region by two more nationally-ranked programs in No. 11 Rowan (13-1-4) and No. 16 Misericordia (15-4-1). The winners of Saturday's matchups will meet in second round action at 6 p.m. on Sunday night, Nov. 16.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for student/seniors. Tickets will go on sale an hour prior to the first game each day.
All tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of the competing institutions. Sixteen sites will host four teams for first and second round competition, with second round winners advancing to the third round in two weeks. Winners of the four third round contests will advance to the quarterfinals, with those winners moving on to the national semifinals. Both the semifinals and national championship will be contested in Salem, Va. The national championship game will be played on December 6.
