LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team concluded the regular season with a decisive 5-0 victory over Lancaster Bible in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday night, October 22.
Ami Mattingly recorded a hat-trick on the night, while
Sadie Cook and
Alexis Nasuta both had a goal each.
Astrid Comp racked up a pair of assists and Cook and
Sara Yeselavage both added a helper each.
Macenzie Mulholland and
Nisa Kece split time in goal for the Lions, where the former tallied three saves.
Penn State Harrisburg (12-2, 3-1 United East) wasted no time as Mattingly scored the opening goal in just the 4th minute, assisted by
Sadie Cook. Mattingly quickly added another goal minutes later, extending the lead to 2-0. The visitors maintained offensive pressure, with multiple corners and shots on goal, but Amanda Hoover's goalkeeping for Lancaster Bible (2-12, 0-3 United East) kept further attempts out.
Sadie Cook opened up the second frame by capitalizing on a corner in the 25th minute, scoring with assistance from
Astrid Comp, extending their lead to 3-0. Despite the Lions' earning consecutive corners  and forcing a defensive save by the Chargers' Hope Swarey on a shot by Mattingly, the half closed with the visitors up 3-0.
Mattingly's persistence continued to pay off when she found the back of the net for the third time in the 34th minute, assisted by
Sara Yeselavage, extending the lead to 4-0. Despite multiple shot attempts, including one by
Alexis Nasuta that went wide, Lancaster Bible held their defensive line and closed the third quarter without conceding another marker.
In the final quarter, Cook's offensive efforts nearly resulted in a goal, hitting the post and forcing another defensive save. In goal, Mulholland recorded three saves to keep a clean sheet for Penn State Harrisburg. Persistent attacking paid off for the Lions when Nasuta scored in the 58th minute, assisted by Comp, to further solidify the 5-0 lead and eventual victory.
