LATHAM, N.Y. - Thanks to his efforts in a memorable win over Stevenson on Saturday afternoon, Penn State Harrisburg's Cooper Wheeler has been named the United East Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Wheeler's late-match heroics helped lead the Lions (1-1) to a victory in the team's final match of the fall over the weekend. He and Damir Cuturic teamed up to secure a 7-6 win over Stevenson's No. 1 duo in the top doubles contest. After being edged 7-6 in the opening set of the No. 1 singles contest, Wheeler battled back from a 4-1 deficit to take the second set 7-5 and force a final, match-deciding set. After once again falling behind 4-1 in the third, the Red Lion, Pa. native fought back and didn't drop another point, as he eventually secured a 6-4, come-from-behind victory that sealed the memorable 4-3 overall win for Penn State Harrisburg.
