ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – A program-record eight-game win streak came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team with a 2-0 road loss at the hands of the defending United East champions from St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 15.
The Lions (10-2, 2-1 United East) had a prime opportunity to draw first blood but
Ami Mattingly was turned away by goalkeeper Sophia Kent on a penalty stroke midway through the second quarter.
After a scoreless opening half, the Seahawks (9-4, 2-0 United East) turned up the pressure early in the third quarter and eventually broke through with the game's first goal in the 38th minute.
Penn State Harrisburg earned a pair of penalty corners early in the fourth quarter but could not convert. The home team took advantage and tacked on an insurance score with less than five minutes to play to put things out of reach.
