MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team found the goal it needed late in the second half to secure a pivotal 1-0 conference victory over United East foe Penn State Berks on Saturday night, Oct. 11.
Diana Pon was the one to find the back of the net for Penn State Harrisburg (8-5-2, 5-0-0 United East), with
Olivia Sgrignioli recording the assist. The hometown Lions controlled possession for much of the night and outshot Penn State Berks (4-7-2, 2-2-0 United East) 13-3 overall.
Despite putting the pressure on for 60-plus minutes, Penn State Harrisburg was unable to find the back of the net. With just under 18 minutes to play, however, Sgrignioli was able to make a pass through traffic and find Pon's foot. Pon made a turn and fired her attempt past goalkeeper Sophia Gonzalez with 17:51 to play.
From there, the home team kept Penn State Berks from getting off another shot to preserve the team's fifth shutout in conference play.
