Women's Soccer Settles For Draw With Lycoming

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team could not hold a late lead and was eventually forced to settle for a 3-3 draw with Lycoming in non-conference action on a rainy Tuesday night, Sept. 24.

Julia Hughes netted a pair of goals for the Lions (2-4-3), while Ciera Frick recorded three total points thanks to a marker and an assist. Ava Myers and Ava Fox each added a helper.

The Warriors (7-1-1) struck first when Julia Bidelspach found the back of the net off a Kylie Brodkorb find in the 16th minute but Penn State Harrisburg responded with three straight goals to end the first half and begin the second.

Frick netted the equalizer off a feed from Fox in the 30th minute to tie things up heading into the break before Hughes converted back-to-back goals after halftime. She finished off a chance from point-blank range in the 53rd minute to put the home team out in front and doubled the advantage two and a half minutes later by one-touching a free kick from Frick past Lyco goalkeeper Mia Pollack.

With 15:03 left to play, the visitors cut the deficit in half thanks to a Mikayla Long marker but it appeared to be too little too late until the Lions were whistled for a handball in the box with just six seconds remaining, leading to a penalty kick that Ella Magee converted in the final moments to end the contest without a victor.

NOTABLES

- The Lions outshot Lycoming 11-5 overall and 7-4 in shots on target.

- Hughes' goals were the first and second of her young career. She is currently the team's leading scorer.

- Frick's marker was the first of her career.

- For both Myers and Fox, their assists were their first of the season.
