Women's Volleyball Falls to Gettysburg In Straight Sets

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team fell to undefeated Gettysburg 3-0 at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Sept. 11 by set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22.

Returners Camryn Wettstone and Brianna Ondishin Ribon led Penn State Harrisburg on offense with 10 kills apiece, while Mackenzy Miller and Hannah DeGregory provided plenty of assists from their setter positions. Defensively, it was an entire team effort, with Julia Choe and Kate Bukowski leading the way for the Blue & White with 18 combined digs.

Although the Lions (5-2) were hampered by slow starts in the first two sets, the home team never backed down and challenged the Bullets (8-0) until the very end of each frame. Gettysburg got out to an eight-point lead halfway through the beginning set before the Blue & White attempted to claw back late to get within three albeit the frame ended in favor of the Bullets.

The second set was unfortunately much of the same for Penn State Harrisburg, but not without another late effort which was fueled by six kills from Wettstone during the frame. In the final set of the night, the home team saw it's first lead when they got up 5-1 early. The Bullets took the lead back quickly thanks in part to a pair of service aces from Mary Heugal. The Lions kept it close by impressive play on both offense and defense, but Gettysburg outlasted the home team to bring the contest to a close.

NOTABLES

- M. Miller led the Lions with 17 assists and added seven digs on the night.
