Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team played well enough to win but was unable to break through and find the back of the net in a scoreless draw with Mary Washington on Sunday night, Sept. 1.

The Lions (0-1-1) controlled the time of possession and outshot the Eagles (1-0-1) 9-7 overall but the potential game-winning goal narrowly avoided their grasp despite a handful of good looks and scoring chances.

The home team was the aggressor in the early going, earning a corner kick and getting off the game's first three attempts, including a pair of good looks for Diana Pon, in the opening 25 minutes.

Mary Washington's first scoring opportunity came on a Madison Bauserman header that missed wide right in the 34th minute before another Bauserman shot was turned away by goalkeeper Sydney Mulka three minutes later.

Penn State Harrisburg's best look came after the break when Pon fired an attempt off the hands of a diving Morgan Hicok in the 63rd minute. The ball deflected away from the keeper long enough for Ava Myers to follow it up with a rebound effort from point-blank range but her shot sailed just wide of the right post.

The Lions earned back-to-back corner kicks in the final eight minutes but could not convert, instead settling for a scoreless tie in the team's home opener.

NOTABLES
- Pon got off a team-high four attempts, including one shot on goal.
- Both shots from Julia Hughes were on frame.
- Mulka made four stops in goal to preserve the shutout.
- The Lions racked up seven corner kicks. UMW managed just two.
- After eight meetings dating back to 2013, Sunday's draw was the first in series history between the two programs.

WHO'S NEXT?
The Lions will look for their first win of the young season when they travel to Muhlenberg for another non-conference tilt on Wednesday night.
