Women’s Basketball Fends Off Alvernia

READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Alvernia 66-57 in their last contest before the new year on Monday night, Dec. 30.

Jordan Carpenter recorded a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lions, while Meghan Sholley also reached double figures with 11 points of her own. Ali Lister played all but one minute of game time and tallied nine points, seven boards, and five steals.

With Alvernia (5-5) leading 19-13 after the opening quarter, Penn State Harrisburg (8-4) was able to slow the home team's momentum and had a solid second period to swing the score in favor of the visitors by two heading into halftime. The Lions went on an 11-0 run early in the second frame that was sparked by a layup from mid-year transfer Molli Hogbin, a Sholley 3-ball, and back-to-back layups by Mikayla Coleman and Carpenter.

At the start of the second half, Carpenter scored seven straight points for Penn State Harrisburg and from that point on the Lions never trailed again. The Golden Wolves attempted to claw back several times throughout the last two quarters but were unable to answer to the impressive free throw shooting by Penn State Harrisburg down the stretch.

NOTABLES
- Carpenter posted her ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 14 rebounds.
- Sholley hit a pair of shots from beyond the arc en route to 11 points.

- Coleman added nine points of her own in limited action.
- The Lions shot 43.2 percent from the field, 40 percent from three, and 84. percent from the charity stripe.
