INDIANAPOLIS - Penn State Harrisburg's Jordan Carpenter has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA selects men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 10th season that the USBWA is recognizing national players of the week from Division III. Carpenter earned the women's national weekly honor along with Cal Lutheran's Devon Lewis on the men's side.

During a 2-1 week for Penn State Harrisburg (7-4), Carpenter opened with 26 points, including the game-sealing free throws with two seconds remaining, and nine rebounds in a 70-69 victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Monday night. The graduate student followed it up with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double in a win at Delaware Valley on Thursday night. The forward closed out the week with another double-double, scoring 22 points on a single-game program record 90.9 percent shooting from the field (10-of-11) and pulling down 20 rebounds in a loss at Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.

For the week, the Chester, Va. native averaged a double-double with 21.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. For her efforts, she was named the United East Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth week in a row.

The USBWA was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball and has selected a Division I All-America team since the 1956-57 season.

The Lions return to action when they travel to Alvernia for another non-conference tilt on Monday night, Dec. 30.
