Field Hockey's Historic Season Ends In United East Semifinals

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg field hockey's historic 2024 campaign came to an end with a hard-fought 2-0 setback against conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) in United East Tournament Semifinal action on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2.

Goalkeeper Macenzie Mulholland did all she could to keep the Lions (9-7) in it, making 16 saves on the day.

Penn State Harrisburg kept the Seahawks (9-10) off the board for the entirety of the opening quarter but the home team broke through early in the second when Brenna Ziegler found the back of the cage in the 18th minute.

The Lions remained within striking distance at the break but St. Mary's eventually doubled the advantage 40 seconds into the third quarter when Josie Shermeyer finished off a feed from Briana Allen to make it 2-0.

Bailey Rucker got off a good look late in the third but St. Mary's goalkeeper Sophia Kent was there to make the stop. Hailey Nelson also managed a shot midway through the final frame but it was off target and the Seahawks were able to escape with the win and advance to the tournament championship game.
