MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team used its signature defense and a strong effort on the glass to defeat CCNY 67-59 in non-conference action at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23.
Chris Henderson led the way with a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds,
Isaiah Eggleston scored a dozen points and added seven boards, and
Isaiah Milien was the third Penn State Harrisburg player to reach double figures with 10 points.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the teams trading the lead five times. The Lions (2-3) jumped out to a 4-0 advantage following an Eggelston jump shot at the 17:57 mark but CCNY (1-1) responded with seven straight to grab the lead for the first time. Neither team led by more than five points until the first half buzzer sounded, with Penn State Harrisburg taking a five-point lead with 7:30 remaining before halftime thanks to a pair of
Christian Clark-Stokes free throws before a pair from
Jordan Spencer made it 32-26 at the break.
The Lions opened the second half on an impressive 10-1 run that included five points from Milien and a 3-ball from
Larry Onabanwo to stretch the advantage to 42-27 with 15:47 left to play.
The Beavers responded with a run of their own, however, scoring 17 of the next 19 points to pull even with 11:22 remaining. Onabanwo stopped the bleeding with a driving layup before Henderson showed off his strength on back-to-back possessions, fighting through fouls to convert a pair of tough layups to make it 50-45 at the 9:42 mark.
Layups from
Lance Douglas and
Kyle Rhoden pushed the lead to seven with 6:43 left and a corner triple from Milien made it 60-52 two minutes later. CCNY pulled to within six following a Chris Stone layup with 2:06 left but Penn State Harrisburg's would not surrender a point the rest of the way, while Milien put the game on ice with a pair of free throws with 1:14 to play.
