SWARTHMORE, Pa. - After a week-long hiatus, Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon but fell 82-65 to a Swarthmore squad receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
Jordan Spencer led the way with a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Isaiah Eggleston and Christian Clark-Stokes netted 11 points each, while Dylan Moore also reached double figures with 10 points.
The teams traded 3-balls to begin the game but the Garnet (1-2) used an 8-0 run to jump out an 11-3 advantage at the 15:03 mark. An Irby Hunter triple stopped the run but Swarthmore kept rolling and eventually led by as many as 14 points midway through the opening half.
The Lions (1-2) went to work from there, starting with a Spencer jumper from beyond the arc followed by a 3-ball from Clark-Stokes and a Moore layup. Moore added a dunk a few possessions later to cap a 10-2 run and cut the deficit to 29-23 with 6:05 left in the first half. After the home team stretched its lead back to double digits late in the half, Penn State Harrisburg closed it out with four straight points to pull to within eight at the break.
The second half saw the offense stall out for the visitors, allowing Swarthmore to pull ahead by a dozen before methodically pushing the lead to as many as 23 points. The Lions made mini-pushes to cut the deficit to 12 but they were unable to put together the game-changing run they needed to back into it in the final minutes.
