Wilson Escapes Field Hockey In Overtime Thriller

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team battled into an extra session for the second time in three games, coming up just short in a narrow 3-2 overtime setback to conference foe Wilson on Saturday morning, Oct. 19.

Sadie Cook and Anna Moyer each found the back of the net, while Rachel Lane assisted on both goals. Cook also added an assist and Macenzie Mulholland made five saves in net.

The Lions (9-5, 2-2 United East) struck first midway through the opening quarter when Lane connected with Cook for a point-blank finish in the eighth minute but the Phoenix (10-3, 3-1 United East) drew even when Paige Ney finished off a feed from Kate Seymour 2:11 into the second period.

A penalty corner opportunity allowed Penn State Harrisburg to retake the lead a few minutes later when Cook's insertion was ripped into the circle by Lane before being deflected into the back of the box by Moyer with 7:12 remaining in the first half.

Wilson responded again, this time early in the second half, when Seymour drove into the circle and on to goal to poke home the equalizer in the 35th minute. Mulholland was excellent to close out the third quarter, denying a pair of Ney attempts in the closing seconds to keep things tied heading into the final frame.

After a scoreless fourth, the game went to extra time. The Lions earned a penalty corner early in the extra session but could not convert. The visitors took advantage and scored the game-winning goal when a ball from Jill Ahlgren deflected off Lizzie Landon and into the back of the cage in the 65th minute, allowing Wilson to escape with the slim victory.
