MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team captured the regular season conference title and clinched the top seed in the upcoming United East Championship Tournament thanks to a 2-0 shutout victory over conference foe Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26.
Diana Pon netted the game-winning goal early in the second half and Serenity Hill added an insurance marker a few minutes later to put things out of reach. Sydney Mulka made four saves in goal to preserve the clean sheet.
Penn State Harrisburg (8-5-4, 6-0-1 United East) dominated the time of possession and outshot the visiting Lions (10-5-2, 5-1-2 United East) 11-2 in the opening half but were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. The home team finally broke through early in the second when Pon gathered a ball from Mackenzie Mowery, made a move past a Penn State Abington defender, and fired her attempt past goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid in the 50th minute.
Later in the half, it was Hill getting into the scoring act with one of the prettiest goals of the season. The forward made a nice move towards the right sideline around a handful of Penn State Abington players and lofted her attempt high into the opposite corner of the net to double the Penn State Harrisburg lead in the 66th minute.
