Volleyball Splits in Tri-Match Action at Shenandoah

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINCHESTER, Va. - Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball team split a pair of contests in tri-match action at Shenandoah on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21. The Lions earned a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent John Jay before dropping a 3-2 decision to the hosts in their final match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (9-13) defeated John Jay (16-6) by set scores of 26-24, 25-17, 25-19 in a decisive match in the team's first outing on Saturday prior to forcing Shenandoah into a five-setter by set scores of 17-25, 27-29, 25-13, 25-23, 10-15 in favor of the home team.

The first set against John Jay was a competitive one, however the Lions were able to capitalize on attack errors by the Bloodhounds and sealed the win with two kills from Tori Henderson and Camryn Wettstone to end the set 26-24.

The Blue & White left no doubt in the second set, as they didn't give up the lead one time during the course of the game. In the final set, John Jay got out to a 4-0 lead but it wasn't long before the Lions answered with an 11-0 run that put them on track to sweep the Bloodhounds.

The second match of the day against Shenandoah was a marathon, as the contest went five sets that included high-scoring affairs. After dropping the first two sets to begin the match, the Lions dominated in the third set, where they held the Hornets to just 13 points.

Thanks in part to a 5-0 lead to begin the fourth set, Penn State Harrisburg was able to carry their momentum and earn a 25-23 win to force the match into a fifth and final set. Once again, the fifth set was a back-and-forth contest, but the Lions were unable to go the distance and Shenandoah took the victory.
