MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team rolled to a 90-57 victory over United East foe Gallaudet at the Capital Union Building to secure its 20th victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12.
Penn State Harrisburg (20-2, 13-1 United East) used a dominant second half to dispatch of Gallaudet (2-20, 2-12 United East) and complete the regular-season sweep of its conference foe on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first minute and a half but the visitors responded with an 8-0 run to pull ahead for the first time. The home team started to turn things on midway through the opening half, as Rodriguez and Coleman each knocked down 3-balls that reclaimed the advantage for the Blue & White and created some breathing room.
Leading 28-24 at the 4:29 mark, Penn State Harrisburg put together a 14-4 spurt to end the half that included a pair of triples from Scott, including one that beat the first-half buzzer and put the home team up by a dozen heading into the locker room.
The Blue & White erupted to begin the second half, scoring nine straight in less than three minutes to keep the momentum firmly in their corner and push the lead to 49-28. Coleman began to heat up from distance, knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 72-41 with 10:06 left to play.
The lead ballooned to as many as 34 points before Daniels, Coleman, Scott, Rodriguez, and Donyae Baylor-Carroll received curtain calls to cap off their Senior Day.
- The Lions shot 46.6 percent from the floor and 37.1 percent from 3-point range.
- Penn State Harrisburg won the rebounding battle 40-33.
- The Blue & White assisted on 26 of their 34 made field goals.
- The Lions scored 35 points off Gallaudet turnovers.
- Pedro Rodriguez knocked down four 3-balls en route to netting a game-high 20 points. He added five steals and four rebounds.
- Zegary Scott III went a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, scored 18 points, dished out eight assists, and swiped three steals.
- Nate Curry nearly had a double-double, finishing with 16 points, eight boards, and four assists.
- Dylan Daniels racked up 14 points, six blocks, and six rebounds.
- Corey Smith finished with 13 points to lead the way for Gallaudet.
The Lions continue conference play when they travel to Penn State Abington on Tuesday night, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
