How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg defeated Wilson in four sets at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Sept. 11.

The Lions (4-3) took the first two sets 25-18, 25-18 before dropping the third game 25-22. The Blue & White rallied to take the fourth set 25-22 and earn the overall win.

The competitive first set was close in the early going before Penn State Harrisburg put a run together midway through the game, prompting the Phoenix (3-5) to burn a timeout trailing 10-7. Blocks from Brittany Ebaugh and Jewel Crumbley pushed the advantage to 17-9 before a Melanie Sheaffer kill off an Alexis Imler assist ended the set.

After falling behind early, the Lions erased the deficit and forced Wilson to call a timeout following an Ebaugh kill off an Alyssa Snyder feed. The break did little to slow the home team's momentum, however, as a Megan Hamm service ace a few points later clinched the second set win and pushed the overall advantage to 2-0.

The Phoenix pulled off a comeback in the third set to stay alive but the Blue & White responded in the fourth set, holding off a late run from the visitors. An Ebaugh kill off an Imler assist resulted in Wilson burning its final timeout but it didn't matter, as the Lions got blocks from Ebaugh, Sheaffer, Cheyanna Buckingham and Imler in crunch time to seal the victory.
