Penn State Harrisburg Battles #13 Christopher Newport

Middletown, Pa.- Wednesday January 9th, tonight the Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team took on the #13th team in the country, Christopher Newport. The Captains were also in first place in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) with Harrisburg right behind them in second. Both teams battled back and forth but Christopher Newport came out on top, 77-65. 

The game was very evenly matched throughout the first ten minutes of play, both teams had several key scoring opportunities. As Christopher Newport began to pull away, Jazmon Harris (Baltimore, Md. / Patterson) put Harrisburg back on the board with his first jumper of the day. Senior forward Arick Sodini (Manalapan, N.J / St. John Vianney) hit a three to bring Harrisburg only one point behind the Captains. Christopher Newport came right back with their own three. Harris led for Harrisburg in the first half with nine points and five rebounds.The visitors went in to half time with a 13 point lead.

Sodini gave Harrisburg the momentum as the second half got underway with his second three of the game. A few minutes later, Kahlil Williams (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) fought through three defenders to make a bucket. Williams was fouled, as a result he made a free throw and put the Lions within five of the visitors. Junior Austin Chimuma (Bowie, Md. / Annapolis Area) hit a jumper to bring the home team within three. Christopher Newport went on a run in the last few minutes of play but Harrisburg did not back down. Williams came up big for Harrisburg with a three and only two minutes to go. Newport went on to finish the game, 11 points ahead of the Lions. Jourdon Wilson (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) led for Harrisburg with 13 points and three rebounds. 

Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Southern Virginia on Saturday January 9th. The men will look to get their fourth conference win of the year. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
