Drew Scales was named Penn State Harrisburg's first women's flag football head coach in program history in 2025.
Scales, a former star at Slippery Rock University and Central Dauphin High School, founded the Capital Area Flag Football League in 2021 and continues to serve as commissioner for the organization. The co-ed youth league serves more than 300 participants per year and has raised more than $10,000 for local youth and high school football programs since its inception.
Scales has served on the Central Dauphin coaching staff as the varsity wide receivers coach for his alma mater since 2017. Under his guidance, a pair of CD players have earned all-state recognition, while four Rams have been named Mid-Penn All-Conference during his ongoing stint at Central Dauphin.
A four-year starter at wideout and as a return specialist at Slippery Rock, Scales was electric on special teams and holds the program's all-time record for career kick return yards (1,851). He scored two touchdowns on kickoffs and added 494 punt return yards and another score. He also racked up 1,309 yards as a receiver with nine touchdowns.Â
While at Central Dauphin, Scales helped lead the Rams to a PIAA 4A State Championship victory in 2011, rushing for more than 100 yards, hauling in a 74-yard receiving touchdown and adding a key fourth-quarter kick return. A two-time all-state selection, he was named the 2012 Mid-Penn Offensive Player of the Year before taking part in the East vs. West All-Star Game.
Scales graduated from Slippery Rock with his degree in Business Administration in 2017.
