Penn State Harrisburg

Reigning United East Coach of the Year Gary Johnson begins his third year as head coach of Penn State Harrisburg's men's golf program in 2026-27.

Most recently, Johnson led the Lions to a runner-up finish at the United East Championships in the spring of 2026. Under his guidance, Gavin Fegley and Dillon Yinger earned all-conference recognition after securing top-10 finishes at the conference's championship event. For his efforts, Johnson was named the United East Men's Golf Coach of the Year by his peers.

Johnson's first year with Penn State Harrisburg in 2024-25 resulted in United East All-Conference honors for four golfers, including Fegley, Isaiah Day, Bronson Earley, and Jacob Lotz. As a group, the Lions earned a fourth-place finish at the United East Championships.

A letter-winning golfer at North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, N.J., Johnson spent a pair of seasons as a member of Lehigh's men's golf team, where he trained year round at Saucon Valley Country Club. After graduating from Lehigh, Johnson went on to earn his MBA from Penn State Harrisburg. A stalwart in the local community, he's racked up years of coaching experience in numerous sports during his time in the area.

Recently retired from The Hershey Company, Johnson currently resides in nearby Hummelstown, Pa.
