CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's cross country teams competed in the DeSales Invitational on Saturday morning, Sept. 19.
MaKayla Reichel led the charge for the women, earning a fifth-place finish out of 77 total runners and setting a new 6k record in the process behind an effort of 23:33.4. She now holds the program's top time for the event and finished just 23 seconds behind the race winner in Cedar Crest's Ryley Schwalm.
Michael Alder also etched his name in the men's program record book, as his jaunt of 27:21.1 was good enough to earn him a 16th-place finish and rank him second all-time in program history in the 8k event.
Elsewhere on the women's side,
Margaret Cuthie finished in 35th place, while
Stephanie Carreon and
Jocelyn Shields crossed the line in back-to-back spots in 45th and 46th respectively.
Marissa Becker and
Jada Lewis rounded out the squad and contributed to a 5th-place team score out of eight total institutions.
The second men's runner to cross the finish line was Zach Gibson, who earned 63rd-place.
Dominic Basselgia was two runners behind Gibson in 66th, while
Brandon Everett, Benett Seiler, and
Majwega Ddumba recorded runs that helped the men's side earn 6th-place out of eight teams.
The Lions return to action at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on Friday, Oct. 2.
