ASTON, Pa. - The season came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's softball team on Saturday morning with a narrow 3-1 loss to Penn College on the final day of the United East Championship Tournament.
Madisen Minney and Lauren Maguire each had multi-hit games, while Megan Foltz drove in the team's lone run on the day. Kylee Miller turned in a solid outing, surrendering three runs and striking out three batters.Â
The Wildcats (33-6) jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning but Miller locked down from there, retiring Penn College in order in both the second and third stanzas.
The Lions (25-14) had chances to cut into the deficit but struggled to convert base hits into runs, as Maguire and Minney led off the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles but were never driven in. That changed in the top of the sixth when Foltz came through with a bases-loaded, RBI groundout that plated Maguire to pull Penn State Harrisburg to within one run.Â
Penn College got one back in the bottom of the sixth but Miller worked out and stranded another runner in scoring position. The Lions brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but Maguire was robbed of a potential bloop single to shallow left field to end the game.Â
