LATHAM, N.Y. - Led by three first-team selections, five Penn State Harrisburg softball players have earned United East All-Conference recognition, as announced by the league on Tuesday morning, May 12.
Emily Cutman, Kylee Miller, and Madisen Minney were named to the United East All-Conference First Team, while Lauren Maguire and Kierstyn Smith earned all-conference third team honors.
Minney turned in a breakout sophomore campaign that saw her slash .473/.512/.768 with an impressive 1.280 OPS. The middle infielder recorded 53 hits, scored 27 runs, and drove in 26 more. The Lititz, Pa. native ranked third in the nation in triples (9) and eighth in the country in triples per game (.24). Her batting average proved 45th best among Division III players and her slugging percentage ranked 65th in the nation. She swatted a pair of home runs and added nine doubles to go along with 86 total bases and eight walks. Earlier this spring, Minney became the first player in program history to hit for the cycle during a victory at Notre Dame (Md.).
Miller was tremendous inside the circle this spring, turning in one of the best pitching campaigns in program history. The junior reset the program's single-season ERA record and ranked 41st in the country by allowing just 1.74 earned runs per game. Her 5.25 strikeout-to-walk ratio was the 26th-best number in the nation, her 1.03 walks allowed per seven innings ranked 38th among Division III pitchers, and her 1.10 WHIP ranked 65th in the country. The Chambersburg, Pa. native won 11 games, threw four shutouts, and recorded a pair of saves with 84 strikeouts in 108.2 innings thrown.
Cutman was a constant threat in the middle of the lineup this season, providing plenty of power from the designated player spot. The junior slashed .385/.449/.578 with a 1.027 OPS and led the team with 38 RBIs and 15 doubles. The Palmyra, Pa. native recorded 42 hits, including a pair of home runs, scored 22 runs, and walked a dozen times, She racked up 63 total bases and swiped four bags this spring.
Maguire burst onto the scene during her rookie campaign, appearing in 33 games as a freshman and starting all but two of them. The outfielder slashed .411/.432/.509 and posted a .941 OPS, finishing the season with 46 hits, including nine doubles and a triple. The West Chester, Pa. native scored 32 runs and drove in 31 more, establishing herself as the team's leadoff hitter by midseason. She racked up 57 total bases and swiped six bags this spring.
Smith closed out her career by displaying her versatility at first base and inside the circle. At the plate, the senior slashed .282/.316/.338 and finished with 20 hits on the season, including four doubles. The Millersburg, Pa. native drove in 10 runs, scored nine more, and worked four walks. Inside the circle, she earned a pair of wins, threw two complete games, and struck out 13 batters. Smith finished her career ranked top-10 all-time in program history in ERA, wins, shutouts, and appearances.
