Game Recap: Women's Flag Football | | Thomas Klemick

Women's Flag Football Rolls to Pair of Lopsided Shutout Victories

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's flag football team rolled to a pair of United East victories on Saturday afternoon, beginning with a 54-0 shutout of Lancaster Bible in the opener before securing a 52-0 shutout win over Cedar Crest in the day's final contest. 


GAME 1
Penn State Harrisburg (2-0, 2-0 United East) set the tone early on the defensive side, stifling LBC (0-2, 0-2 United East) with a safety midway through the first quarter. Reigning United East Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Nadia King provided much of the damage on the offensive side, rushing for 140 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, while also tossing a a pair of scores through the air. 


Jordan Carpenter was a menace in the secondary, picking off the Chargers twice and adding a pass breakup, while Grace Kurtz and Saniyah Conn led the way with a team-high four tackles each. Kurtz added eight rushes for 83 yards on the ground, while A'Jewelle Murphy and Megan Cruz each pulled down a receiving touchdown. 


GAME 2
The Lions (3-0, 3-0 United East) picked up right where they left off from Saturday's opener, roaring to their second 50-point victory in as many outings. Carpenter returned a punt 40 yards to the house before adding a pick six later in the contest, while King threw for 141 yards and three touchdowns through the air. 


Kurtz averaged better than 10 yards per carry on the ground, rushing for 41 yards and a pair of scores on just four attempts. Mi-La Guest and Karina Webb each finished with 40-plus yards and a receiving touchdown. 


On the defensive side, J'ene Thompson was a force, racking up a team-high seven tackles, four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. The Lions also finished with five takeaways, led by a pair of interceptions from King, as well as one pick each from Carpenter, Bianca Williams and Azaria Bryant Franklin


NOTABLES
- Penn State Harrisburg has scored 50-plus points in each of its three games so far this season. 
- Through three games, the Penn State Harrisburg defense is allowing just two points per game. 
- The Lions pitched their first shutout of the season in game one before following it up with another in the second outing.

The Lions take to the road for the first time when they travel to Gallaudet for a pair of conference contests against the hosts and Cairn on Saturday, March 28.
