Track & Field Returns to Action at Susquehanna's River Hawk Invite

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - After a six week hiatus, Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's indoor track & field teams returned to action at the River Hawk Invite hosted by Susquehanna on Saturday, Jan. 17. 


A number of athletes set new PR's and secured podium finishes, led by triple jump winner Jonathan Luo on the men's side, as well as Destiny Samuels for the women. 


Luo shattered his own program record to win the triple jump, with his top leap of 13.73 meters proving good enough to win the event and stand as Penn State Harrisburg's new top mark. The reigning United East Indoor Field Athlete of the Year also finished fourth in the long jump thanks to a top bound of 6.57 meters. 


Samuels picked up where she left off in last month's season opener, securing a pair of top-five finishes on the day. The sophomore earned a runner-up finish in the 400m thanks to her 1:02.95 performance in the event and added a fourth-place effort in the 200m behind a sprint of 27.93 seconds. 


Other top performers for the women included Katelyn Williams and Katrin Cavanaugh bounding to second and third-place finishes, respectively, in the pole vault, as well as MaKayla Reichel and Margaret Cuthie earning top-10 finishes in the 3,000m, with Reichel finishing third and Cuthie coming home seventh. Shaeli McGeary finished with a pair of top-five efforts in the jump events, as the rookie took fourth in the triple jump thanks to a top leap of 10.61 meters after finishing fifth in the long jump behind her best effort of 4.78 meters. Ladipo Adebayo also finished seventh in the 400m and Bassma Torky secured a top-10 finish in the shot put with an top toss of 10.52 meters. 


Elsewhere on the men's side, Andrew Geocos continued his strong rookie campaign with a third-place finish in the pole vault behind his best clearance of 4.30 meters. The sprinters trio of Nathan Cammauf, Kadin Sodmont and Landon Weldon shined in the 200m, coming home fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the event. Connor Daubert impressed by earning a pair of top-10 finishes in his throws events, setting a new PR to finish sixth in the shot put with a top toss of 12.77 meters to go along with a ninth-place effort in the weight throw. Daniel Risser finished sixth in the 400m, while Sodmont turned in an eighth-place effort in the same event. Cammauf just missed out on qualifying for the 60m finals, as his sprint of 7.21 seconds secured him a ninth-place finish in the race. 


The Lions will look to build on their success at Susquehanna when they travel to Haverford for the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24.
