READING, Pa. - An historic 2025 campaign came to an end for Penn State Harrisburg's softball team with a nine-inning, 3-1 loss to NCAA Tournament-bound Penn College on the final day of the United East Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon, May 11.
It took extra innings and international softball rules for either squad to put a run on the board, as Penn College (27-14) struck first in the eighth frame thanks to a ground out by Madison Herriman that was good enough to send a runner home. Penn State Harrisburg (28-13) immediately responded and tied the game 1-1 when
Madelyn Lehigh hit a sacrifice fly to left field which allowed
Madisen Minney to tag up from third base and score the Lions first run of the day.
In the ninth inning, the Wildcats turned the tides in their favor once again after Lexi Snyder hit an RBI single with one out and Payton Crawford added an insurance run with all-important RBI double to left field.
Penn State Harrisburg had one last chance to extend the contest but the Lions were unable to erase the two-run deficit and Penn College came away with a 3-1 victory, an NCAA Tournament berth and a chance to defend their United East Conference title against Penn State Brandywine later in the afternoon.
