MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's softball team extended its program-record win streak to 14 in a row with a decisive 11-1 victory over conference foe Keystone in five innings at Courtney Pollock Memorial Field on Monday afternoon, April 21.
Kylee Miller earned her ninth win of the season inside the circle, allowing just two baserunners with three strikeouts in four innings thrown.
Rylee Martinez drove in three runs, while
Madelyn Lehigh finished with two RBIs of her own.
Mackenzie Fisher and
Fallon McFadden were the lone players to have a multi-hit days, as the Lions (22-8, 12-2 United East) reached double-digit runs without an extra base hit.
After Miller retired the Giants (5-18, 3-9 United East) in order to begin the game, a Keystone error allowed Lehigh to score the game's first run in the bottom of the first before
Sierra Sims doubled the advantage with a sacrifice fly that plated Martinez. The home team scored two more in the second when Lehigh worked a bases-loaded walk and Martinez followed it up with a sac fly that drove in
Cara Biesecker.
Miller kept Keystone from getting anything going and Penn State Harrisburg blew the game open in the fourth, using six hits and three walks to push six runs across and stretch the lead to 11-0 through four. The visitors took advantage of an error to score one run in the top of the fifth but it was far too little too late, as reliever
Kierstyn Smith induced three straight lineouts to end the game.
