GRANTHAM, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's outdoor track & field teams battled through wet and windy conditions to wrap up their weekend at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday evening, April 12.
Jonathan Luo turned in a record-breaking performance in the triple jump to lead the way on the men's side, while on the women's side, Destiny Samuels improved her personal best in the 200m.
Luo earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump after posting a top bound of 13.69 meters. The effort surpassed the previous program record set by former standout Alex White in 2018 and stands as the best mark in the event by a United East athlete this spring. He also finished sixth in the long jump.
Samuels shaved a couple of tenths off her best effort in the 400m when she secured a fifth-place finish in the event with a jaunt of 1:02.16. Her mark is the third-fastest time in program history and the second-quickest among United East athletes in the event this season. She also finished 12th in the 200m.
Elsewhere on the men's side, Sean Myron jumped to the top of the conference standings in the hammer throw thanks to his top toss of 39.14 meters in the event on Saturday. Zakareya Aidel rank a 1:02.72 in the 400m hurdles; a time good enough to rank him second among United East hurdlers this spring. Tony Pelino finished seventh in the pole vault, Evan O'Hara earned a ninth-place finish in the javelin throw and Kadin Sodmont secured a top-15 finish in the 100m.
For the women, Carson Villani earned a top-five finish in the high jump behind a top bound of 1.46 meters, while Elaina Torta garnered a top-15 finish in the hammer throw. Katrin Cavanaugh finished 15th in the triple jump and 16th in the pole vault.
