VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2025 outdoor season at Virginia Wesleyan in the Virginia Beach Spring Break Invitational on Saturday, March 22.
Destiny Samuels and
Isabella Seibert turned in strong outings on the women's side, while
Tony Pelino,
Sean Myron, and
Jonathan Luo led the way for the men's squad.
Samuels secured a third-place finish in the 400m thanks to her jaunt of 1:02.36. Her effort stands as the third quickest time in program history. Seibert earned a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw thanks to her top effort of 30.04 meters.
Pelino's top attempt of 3.90 meters in the pole vault secured him a runner-up finish, while Luo took home a pair of top-five in triple jump and long jump. His leap of 3.90 meters was enough to earn him second place in the long jump and Luo's triple jump effort of 13.53 now ranks second all-time in program history. Myron also had his share of top-five finishes, thanks to second-place discus throw of 38.54 and a third-place javelin toss of 47.40.
Elsewhere for the women, the 4x400 relay team finished in third with a time of 4:59.66. Samuels had a seventh-place finish in the 200m thanks to her time of 28.08, while Gabrielle Deitrich also earned seventh place in the hammer throw with her attempt of 35.80.
Isabella McGuire,
Elaina Torta, and
Farangiz Kholmatove accounted for four additional top-10 finishes on Saturday in their respective events of the shot put, hammer throw, and 5000m race.
On the men's side,
Nathan Cammauf crossed the finish line third in the 100m with a time of 11.15 and
Zakareya Aidel ran a 16.75 in the 100m hurdles which earned him fifth place. In the field, four different athletes finished in fourth place for Penn State Harrisburg:
Connor Daubert (36.25 meters) in discus,
Max Henn (35.65 meters) in hammer throw,
Caleb Kendig (46.50 meters), and
Matthew LaBarge (3.60 meters). The Lions piled on another 12 more top-10 honors in six different events across the track and field.
Penn State Harrisburg is set to compete in the Susquehanna Invitational on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29. Friday's events will begin at 2 p.m.
